A Sanctuary, A Struggle, and the Strength to Hope

Ashlan Eldralin leaves the protection of his wealthy family to establish the Autumn Glory, a sanctuary for Stravad living in Adishian, a Human protectorate where their kind are treated with contempt.

After the death of her parents, Miraya and her sister are forced to work for an abusive man. A chance encounter with Ashlan offers Miraya an escape and an opportunity to discover more about her Stravad heritage, but accepting his help means leaving her sister behind. As circumstances become increasingly dangerous, Miraya must decide whether to trust Ashlan while holding onto her determination to rescue her sister.

Author M.L. Hamilton continues to keep the series fresh and intriguing, giving each installment a distinctive identity even when familiar themes and elements carry over from earlier books. Character development is thorough and well-crafted, with motivations, relationships, and emotions presented naturally and consistently.

Miraya’s determination to reunite with her sister is particularly compelling, effectively conveying the lasting impact of abuse alongside the hope of rescuing oneself and those we love. Hamilton handles these emotional elements thoughtfully while skillfully blending romance, fantasy, action, and adventure into an engaging and immersive story.

Dialogue remains authentic to the characters and situations, while strong attention to detail enhances the narrative without slowing its pace. Hamilton’s smooth, flowing style brings the various elements together naturally and keeps the story moving effortlessly.

The narrator, Kelley Hazen, delivers another fascinating and immersive performance, bringing the characters and storyline vividly to life. Her unique character voices are distinct and consistent, making it easy to follow conversations and recognize individual characters throughout the story.

Hazen’s skillful use of tone and inflection enhances both the narrative and its emotional impact. Fear, anger, passion, and vulnerability are conveyed naturally and convincingly, adding depth to key moments without becoming exaggerated. Her clear delivery, strong pacing, and ability to capture the personality and emotions of each character create an engaging listening experience from beginning to end.

This is another excellent addition to the series, combining emotional depth, danger, romance, and adventure in a story that remains compelling from beginning to end. Hamilton and Hazen once again prove to be a strong author-narrator combination, creating an audiobook that is both memorable and thoroughly enjoyable.
