Hope, Fantasy, and a Lifeline of Adventure!
Matthew is a young man who desires what every other boy wants – to fit in, have friends, and not be singled out as an oddity and bullied. Matthew is seriously injured and begins to fall into a dark and deadly mindset. Thus, the desk of interventions in the ethereal kingdom begins the story by assigning Pipiera, his guardian angel so to speak, to provide guidance.
Johanna Frank takes a common enough issue – bullying, isolation, fear, longing to belong and weaves a magical story around these feelings. This is a story of hope. The hope of fitting in, having a reason or purpose for living, friendship, and more. There is a lot of time jumping and character switching which seems confusing at first, but you soon hear it all coming together and becoming crystal clear. Frank takes her time developing the main characters, Matthew and Pipiera. Frank breathes life into each character with realistic qualities and struggles.
The narrators provide a seamless and smooth flow to the story. Their unique voices enrich the story and help to keep the characters easy to identify. I thought their performances were well done and added to the richness of the story.
This is an interesting story that draws and captivates the listener completely. Although there is some disjointedness to the story with the time aspect, it is easily resolved. This is not a book you can pick up and put down whenever. Rather it is a book that once you start, you won’t want to stop.
There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.
