Dark Secrets and Adventure!

On her 16th birthday, Enid Davies discovers she's the cursed daughter of a witch, and her best friend Dylan is kidnapped by the sinister fae Queen Malagant. Determined to rescue him, Enid enters the magical realm of Afallon, where time bends and danger lurks at every turn. With relics from King Arthur’s court and guidance from Merlin, she faces powerful forces and dark secrets in a fight to bring Dylan back.

The author, S. Ramsey, crafts a magical story that touches on real life, exploring feelings, emotions, and a careful look deep within oneself. Her character development is complete, providing deep insight into most of the characters. The plot twists were well handled and fit nicely into the storyline.  It is written for young adults, so the complexity of the storyline and plot twists are geared toward that age group.  The dialogue is rich and authentic throughout.

The narrator, Kim Pruitt, delivers a gripping performance that draws the listener in and keeps them fully immersed.  She was perfect for this audiobook and its audience. Her delivery was solid, and her talented skills at capturing accents and dialects moved the storyline smoothly.

Overall, this is an entertaining book, one that young adults will love.

Review by Becca

On her 16th birthday, Enid Davies learns her perfect life is a lie—she’s the cursed daughter of a witch, and her best friend has been taken by the fae Queen Malagant. To save him, Enid must enter the perilous realm of Afallon. There, she faces powerful enemies and uncovers dark secrets that challenge everything she thought she knew.

S. Ramsey does a great job capturing the attention of younger readers with a magical tale full of mischief, danger, and the ups and downs of growing up. The story is simplified for a pre-teen audience, and while I wished for a bit more depth, my two young daughters were completely hooked and looked forward to it every night.

Kim Pruitt’s narration brought the characters to life—each voice felt distinct and real, and her smooth, expressive delivery added a lot to the experience.

It’s a fun and engaging listen for younger audiences.

Review by Marcus

When Fae Queen Malagant kidnaps Dylan, Enid Davies embarks on a daring mission to rescue him, venturing into the mystical realm of Afallon. There, she faces powerful enemies and unexpected allies, uncovers dark secrets, and is pushed to confront her own identity and inner strength.

S. Ramsey’s imaginative storytelling and vivid world-building pull listeners in from the start. Her writing balances detail and pacing well, allowing for surprising plot twists and meaningful character growth. Aimed at a young adult audience, the story explores themes of self-discovery and personal growth—elements that are thoughtfully woven throughout. I’d be curious to see how Ramsey’s style translates to more mature content in future works.

Kim Pruitt’s narration enhances the experience with distinctive voices, expressive tone, and a smooth, steady cadence that brings each character to life. This is a well-performed and engaging listen, and I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series.
