Deadly Kin
Alec Halsey Mystery, Book 4
by Lucinda Brant
Discoveries and Murder!
Deadly Kin written by Lucinda Brant is a mystery laden with mystery and intrigue. Alec and Selina are expecting their first child. Alec is renovating their Kent estate when not only is a secret vault discovered but information on Alec’s heritage and relationship with his uncle Plantagenet is being revealed little by little. If this is not mystery enough, a young poacher is found brutally murdered while hunting. Historically, this seems to be a very accurate record reflecting this time period especially regarding relationships, position, and societal thoughts.
Brant builds each character with a depth that captures their role and position in life. Further, she creates intriguing actions and situations that both charm and challenge the listener to solve the mystery. I have not had the pleasure of hearing the other books in the series but found that this one could be enjoyed as a standalone.
The narrator, Matthew Lloyd Davies gives a stunning performance. With his voice, he can move the story along at a steady pace, give distinct voices to each character, and maintain a pleasant and charming tone throughout the book. He keeps the dialog realistic as well through his inflection.
