What Do the Titantic and a Mummy Have in Common?

What do the Titanic and a 3,000-year-old mummy have in common?  Lots of people are going to die!  Transporting his newest find back to the US, Prof. Dennis Parker risks his life and the lives of others to bring this cursed mummy on board while also being hunted down by an egotistical and maniacal Egyptian official.  Add in the insistence of the shipbuilder that the Titanic sail on even when there are obvious issues, you have the making of a historically accurate story mixed with some very creative threads running through to add even more suspense, horror, and awe!

I am constantly amazed at how the author, Donald Allen Kirch, can keep listeners on the edge of their chairs!  The historical fact intermingled with creative fiction and another storyline (the mummy) is highly entertaining and suspenseful.  Kirch is methodical in writing the storylines and keeping the threads clear while also blending them perfectly!  Kirch builds each character carefully and fully fitting them perfectly into the plot.  There is nothing lacking or weak in Kirch’s writings – the various plot threads and characters are strong and complete.  When the ship sank, I truly felt like I was seeing the events in person because Kirch is so detailed and vivid in descriptions.

The narrator, Hollie Jackson did a wonderful job giving the characters unique voices that allowed the listener to keep things straight.  I think that Jackson’s performance added to the story perfectly.  The measured rhythm, emotion, and clarity of speech were exact and kept the story moving forward.

I have to say there is not a book yet, that Kirch has written that I have not enjoyed – each story is unique and horrifying in its own way.  I cannot wait for another of Donald Allen Kirch’s books!

There were no issues with the production or quality of the audiobook.
