LANA STASEK
Lana Stasek is a Ukrainian-born American author whose writing explores family, memory, identity, immigration, relationships, and the experiences that shape people's lives.
Lana lived in Ukraine until the age of 33, where she earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Ukrainian Language and Literature and Foreign Culture. Her studies also included coursework in psychology and philosophy, which shaped her enduring interest in cause-and-effect thinking and logic, a lens that continues to inform how she approaches storytelling and character. In 2006, she immigrated to the United States, an experience that continues to influence many of the themes explored throughout her writing.
Lana's decision to begin writing was rooted in something deeply personal. Memory loss has affected women on her father's side of the family, making her increasingly aware that memory is not something we are guaranteed to keep. The possibility that her own memories might one day begin to disappear became one reason to start putting them on paper. After decades of accumulated people, places, family stories, and experiences, there was simply too much to keep safely in one mind. Writing became a way to preserve those memories while they were still hers to tell and, in the process, to examine the causes, consequences, and patterns behind them.
Her Voices Within series examines the connections between personal history, human behavior, and the often-unseen patterns that influence how people think, feel, and relate to one another. Written in a direct and psychologically observant style, each book stands on its own while offering a different perspective on the human experience. All three books in the series have received 5-star reviews — Family Chronicles and Life Before and After from Reader Views, and Bella: Beyond the Bark from Readers' Favorite.
Her third book, Voices Within: Bella: Beyond the Bark, takes a unique approach by telling the story entirely through the mind of Bella, a rescued beagle.
Lana works closely with a small team of collaborators to bring each book to life. The audiobook editions across the series are narrated by SAG-AFTRA actress Megan Tusing, with Greg Tremblay voicing male passages in Life Before and After. Vlada Borodavka, a Loyola University Chicago graduate, serves as the English-language adapter and editor across the Voices Within series. Lana is currently working on her fourth book, a memoir developed in collaboration with editor Oksana Marafioti, bestselling author of American Gypsy.
Alongside the Voices Within series, Lana also writes in Russian, sharing essays and reflections with an international audience through her Russian-language YouTube channel.
Through her work, Lana invites readers to reflect on the stories, choices, relationships, and memories that shape who we are.
